There Countryside, in the province of Lucca, is one of the greenest areas in all of Italy. To make this area so special and attractive are its woods, its medieval castles, its nature reserves and its folk and picturesque villages. Located between the Versilia and the Apuan Alps, the Garfagnana attracts thousands of tourists every year from all over Italy and the world. In the lush green of this land there are many treasures of historical and natural interest to be discovered. There Rocca Ariostesca, the Cave of the Wind and the Devil's Bridge are just some of the most famous tourist attractions of the Garfagnana. In this article we will go to the discovery of two interesting tourist sites: theOrrido di Botri and the Orecchiella Park.
The Orrido di Botri is a nature reserve immersed in a completely green paradise surrounded by woods. The flora in this area is very rich, as there are the hornbeam, beech, holm oak, willow, maple, etc. The fauna is instead composed of small and friendly animals, such as squirrels, foxes, skunks, fallow deer and wild goats. The avifauna is very interesting and varied, including the golden eagle, buzzard, hawk, eagle owl and many other birds. The area is characterized by the presence of a spectacular limestone gorge at the foot of the Tre Tre Powers and Rondinaio mountains.
The Orrido di Botri is the favorite destination of many trekker, which can be explored for a total embrace with the surrounding nature. The most striking feature of the area is the limestone throat, in whose vicinity a stream flows. Here you can also practice canyoning. Due to its particular shape, this area has been nicknamed the canyon of Tuscany.
The Orecchiella Park It is a fantastic 5-hectare reserve, located between the towns of Villa Collemadina, San Romano, Sillano is Piazza al Serchio. The whole area is populated by trees of various kinds, such as fir, beech, pine and chestnut. Along the paths of the Park mouflons and wild boars live freely. Looking up at the sky you can admire the majestic flight of golden eagle and hawks.
The area is well equipped with various accommodation facilities, which attract several tourists, especially in the warmer seasons of the year. Also present are the Naturalistic Museum, the Garden of Mountain Flowers and the Museum of Raptors. Lovers of the trek they can try their hand at numerous paths accessible to everyone, for a fairytale trip in the green Garfagnana. The paths are protected by fences, to protect the flora and the wildlife of the area.
